About Philomena

Brisbane born artist Philomena Drake is inspired by the beautiful and ever changing faces of humanity, particularly those of women. Her prolific work comprises numerous subjects and artistic mediums, from prints taken from her hand built collograph plates {which of themselves are works of art},encaustic images to artist book installations of bones and wood, relating the many textures of life. Like changing faces of time, it is not unusual to find something new upon revisiting a Philomena Drake.

“With my art I honor the many strong women who throughout history have stood their ground while heroically caring for their families and communities.I am greatly influenced by the organic shapes and moods of the countryside on my property in the Scenic Rim. My style is of a contemporary iconic discipline that helps give structure and definition without loosing the language of mystery and contemplation that the images speak.”

Philomena Drake has studied and researched art all over the world. She has representations in collections in Australia, UK, Germany and USA.
